Well, planned trip, great transportation, our driver/Tour later was the best, the sites we visited were top-notch and well described to us and questions answered. Accommodations were good for the most part. A couple could have been better. Music was beautiful and very organic. Communication worked great from before the trip started. Timelines worked great all of our events were managed quite well.

We absolutely loved this trip! The Scottish Highlands and islands are marvelous. Every day was a new adventure. The neolithic sites were awe inspiring. Our small group of fellow travelers was delightful and Murray, our guide was the best! The music sessions were so pleasant including two evenings with music from Tim. Wonderful stops at little country side cafes. Unforeseen events were dealt with brilliantly. Would I do this again? Yes, Yes, Yes! Great trip!

This was my second Scotland tour with Scotland Folk Tours in two years with Barb Bowers.  The tour was wonderful as I had anticipated.  Fiona's walking tour of Edinburgh and the bus tour with Gail was superb.  Balancing history, culture, geography, food and music was accomplished.  I coordinate a concert series in Maine and look forward to meeting and connecting with local musicians during the tour.   Looking forward to a future tour in northern Scotland!

We had a great time, except the rain and clouds prevented us from seeing two full days of sights on the bus part of the tour. I would have liked more time at Culloden as well, 1 + hour was not nearly enough to take it all in. Accommodations (except for the first and last hotels we stayed in) were too small: small rooms and double beds, which meant we really didn't sleep well. The music, food, and guides (Fiona and Gail) were terrific, however. The guides in particular were excellent; they really knew their stuff and had a great sense of humor, very entertaining. A good way to be introduced to Scotland.

Our Unforgettable Journey Through Scotland 

This was an excellent tour of a stunning country, rich in history and breathtaking landscapes. With a small group of just 14, the experience felt personal, intimate, and wonderfully communal—truly a gathering of like-minded travelers.

We were fortunate to have two outstanding guides: Fiona led us through the first leg of the trip, while Duncan took the reins for the second half. Both were absolutely wonderful. If we’re counting adjectives, they were friendly, engaging, accommodating, kind, knowledgeable, entertaining, thorough, and radiantly proud of their heritage. Their passion for Scotland brought every site and story to life. Our music leader, Dana Cooper, was a true delight. A gentleman through and through, Dana's talent shone both on and off the bus. His presence and performances added depth and joy to our journey.

The traditional Scottish music woven throughout the tour was a real highlight—we thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely wouldn’t have minded a bit more! As for accommodations, while some hotels stood out more than others, most were clean, comfortable, and well-located.

All in all, it was a beautifully curated trip filled with laughter, music, camaraderie, and unforgettable Scottish charm. Alexis, the director of Scotland Folk Tours communicated with us in a timely basis and provided us with all the information to make this a seamless trip with no worries on our part. We highly recommend this tour!

This was among the best trips of my life. I had never considered a group trip before, but now I want to go on all the Scotland Folk Tours trips. Julie and Katie were fantastic at building group cohesion and making everyone feel included. All of our guides—Gail and Fiona in particular—were deeply knowledgeable and entertaining. I learned so much. The trip was perfectly paced—not too much driving, with extended stays in two places and day trips off from there. I can’t say enough good things about this trip.

Scotland is a magical place.  The tour begins in Edinburgh, and the local guide, Fiona was fabulous- her knowledge of history, and putting it into an understandable context helped walking around the city fun, lively and fascinating. Ben drove the bus and toured us into  The Highlands which is a majestic and magical place. His knowledge of current and historical facts brought the countryside to life.There are probably 20 colors of green in the hills and mountains of The Highlands, and I half expected fairies, trolls and mountain spirits to jump out!  Accommodations were very comfortable and the food in Scotland was great, even for a pescatarian! I highly recommend this agency!

 Fascinating introductions to Scottish music, culture, and environs! Recommendations for future trips would be someone to discuss in more detail the history of Scottish music and instruments, and a couple hour course on basic Gaelic, with Gaelic spelling, pronunciation of Gaelic words, and common Gaelic phrases.  Glad to be introduced to Scotland’s  National Park System and hope to track their progress in restoring more sensitive habitats!

First off thank you for such a comprehensive review. This type of feedback is certainly the type of constructive comments that we take note of when planning for the future. I'm glad to hear that, overall, you had a good tour with us and assure you that we strive for improvement.

We had a good time - some of the folks did not gel but there was a real camaraderie among a few of us.  
Some of the hotels left a lot to be desired - balms sea is out in the middle of nowhere with nothing around it - and the hotel in Inverness was not great.  It felt like a monastic room!  The shower had a stuck door which would only allow a small person through.  I am not that small.  I loved the Frederick house hotel and the place we stayed in stirling / really nice!!!  If I was queen for a day -I would have liked somewhere other than Inverness - there was not much to do there except shop.  I enjoyed having things to see rather than just places to spend money.  

Fiona was fantastic!  Loved the time we spent with her and enjoyed Ben, too.  He did a good job and was a great (fast😱) driver!  Both were full of so much information!!  Amazing!!

Stirling is an amazing little city, and I agree she warrants further exploration but don't forget you can always add on a day at the start or the end of the tour whenever you wish!

Our trip to Scotland was more than I expected. The landscape was stunning the people were so kind and welcoming.
Our guides were extraordinary, history wizards and made the entire experience much fun. Having Tret Fure as the leader of our group was amazing, she is such a wonderful story teller and such a gifted musician.  The experience of local musicians sharing their stories thru music was magical. The only recommendation I have is to give travelers more time in Stirling, perhaps add an additional day to the tour. The Beyond the Borders tour was truly Beyond my expectations. The various accommodations, amazing food, incredible entertainment and beautiful landscapes were all amazing. Very congenial group.  Guides throughout were wonderful to be with. Informative and helpful.
Accomodations good for the most part. Golden Lion in Stirling was least likeable.  Hot or cold rooms. Too many stairs for some.
Food throughout was delicious.  Mass dining hall at Peebles Hydro got a bit boring.
Brea in Stirling was the best.
Sightseeing was planned very well timewise and energy wise.
The storyteller event was inspiring and should be oft repeated!

The musical host Kitty Donohoe, our first guide Fiona, and driver/guide Duncan were all outstanding.. Fiona and Duncan made the history of the region come alive. The local musicians were excellent, and very personable. Accommodations, for the most part, were excellent. The tour members were congenial, and made for good company.
