My adventures with Scotland Folk Tours traversing Scotland on the Beyond the Standing Stones with our host musician Jason Wilber was beyond what words can describe. I had an absolutely fun and wonderful time the entire 12 days of the tour. I arrived two days early to spend time in Edinburgh before our tour began and I highly recommend starting out that way. Our tour began in Glasgow, missing the historic city of Edinburgh among the 12 day loop. It was wonderful to have Jason Wilber our host musician along with the group, he played two nights and local musicians played the other evenings in local pubs, hotels, and houses. All were spectacular. It was a delight to join a tour and have all the accommodations and meals arranged and set to go. We traveled in a brand new Mercedes Sprinter van, perfectly accommodating our 16 travelers. The hotels were perfect, very comfortable, top notch and pleasant. All the meals were delicious with a great variety of entrees to choose from. And the best part was out tour leader, Murray Anderson, he was very enjoyable, entertaining, fun jokes/puns, chock full of historical knowledge of Scotland, talking throughout the day off the top of his head with sharing precise dates, facts, battles, clan names and interesting stories of ancient lore. His memory is amazing and he filled our heads with fun information. As we would approach each town, Murray would also give us the background and history of the town, sharing all the historical and newsworthy bits, explaining the historical significance everywhere we went. Murray was very organized, always smiling, and filled with helpful energy. Murray presented beautiful scenery, visiting and pointing out oceans, Standing Stones, dreamy countryside, castles, hiked a gorge, spent time in various islands and highlands, visited significant and historic sites, lighthouses, saw tons and leaned about wildlife, trees and flowers, lochs, rivers, etc. As this was a musical based tour, Murray had a very appropriate playlist filled with significant songs of both local musicians and songs everyone was familiar with to tie in perfectly with each place we visited along the way. I highly recommend this Tour and look forward to joining Scotland Folk Tours for more of their hosted tours.
